Book Review: David Walliams Demon Dentist

Book Review!

David Walliams: Demon Dentist

I love all of David Walliams books but I am going to post a review about this specific book because it was the first book I read by David Walliams.

First of all, when you look at the cover it tells you exactly what it is about. An evil dentist with an evil cat, trying to drill out the boy's teeth.

I love how it is such a big book so if you’re enjoying the book, it takes quite a while to finish. So, you can read more of it. Alright, Let’s get on with the storyline.

I like the storyline because it is so creative! In my opinion, all the storylines David Walliams comes up with are so creative and funny!

He also makes a lot of made-up words. Which I think is pretty cool! He shows all the characters in the book before you read the actual book so you know who is who.

Let’s get on with the actual book!

The story is about a boy called Alfie and he hated going to the dentist because of an incident that happened. He's been avoiding the dentist for ages. The last time he went to the dentist (When the incident happened) he was six years old.

When 12 year old Alfie went to assembly, the new dentist came to promote her dental clinic. Alfie and his friend Gabz got suspicious of her. At the end of the assembly, the dentist gave out sugar-free sweets and everyone came to get them. Except for Alfie and Gabz. Not long after that, Alfie was forced to go to the dentist and something terrible happened... After that, Gabz came to confront the dentist. Alfie soon realised that Gabz had been gone for a while so Alfie decided to face his fears and go to the dentist to find out the truth. Read the book to find out how the story ends.

Rating out of 10: 10/10

Would I recommend the book? Definitely!

I really enjoyed this book and if you get it out at the library or buy it, I hope you enjoy it too!

  1. What a good review Brooke. I like how you point out the language you like and don't give too much of the plot away.
I'm currently reading the Ice Monster by David Walliams to my Kaiawhina group. It is a hoot.
Is there anything that you think Mr Walliams could change in Demon Dentist?

    1. I don't think so. I really like his books and how he writes them. I don't think David Walliams should change anything about Demon Dentist because the book Demon Dentist is how I got into reading his books.

  5. Brooke it is so good when you find an author that you like. I am a big fan of Michael Morpurgo. We have lots of his books in the school library. You can't go to the library at the moment but if you like listening to stories you can get audio books from the CCC library online.

It's funny because that's the first book of David Williams that you read but the only one of his that I have not read.It reminds of last night when my mum said I could read for ten minutes but she forgot to come in and stop me reading and I read for an hour and finished the book!Maybe next time make the font a bit bigger and easier to see. Good Job on the review -Willow

  7. Hi Brooke, what a great book review. I like that you decided to do an overall review instead of chapter by chapter. Is there another David Walliams book that you would recommend for me to read to my Kaiawhina?

  10. Good job reviewing this book Brooke. I love David Walliams books and they are my favourite to read to children. They make me laugh as much as the kids. I think he is very clever with his humour so it connects all ages.
